About Chandra Sivaraman
Greetings. That’s me, the photographer. I never consciously intended to be one, but felt instictively drawn to the camera every time I picked one up. The viewfinder offered a tantalizing portal into an alternate reality. I grew into it, starting from humble beginnings, as I walked around during office lunch breaks armed with little more than a smartphone. Even in as relentlessly urban an environment as Los Angeles, it was the little oases of nature that spoke to me. Fast forward a few years, and this website emerged.
I believe that nature is the antidote to the disharmony of modern living. A spa for frayed nerves accessible to all if only we can slow down enough to see and be quiet enough to listen. I seek to portray nature as it might have appeared in primordial times using a minimal, black and white aesthetic, distilling it to its essence. Occasionally, I also explore the contrast between the natural and the man made. These images are my attempt to portray the beauty in forms, light and shadow, and a sense of grandeur evoked not only through sweeping vistas, but also through the tiny overlooked flower or the timeless shape of an ancient tree.
It is my hope that these portraits of nature bring you a moment’s tranquility, a brief repose in a world obsessed with speed.
